Dr. Wally Hostetter begins an eight week course on Sunday morning, September 25th- November 13th, during the 9:30 am Sunday school hour in the Session Rm. “Doing Life” will help you integrate your knowledge of God into everyday living. If you are currently a leader at St. Giles, or plan to be in the future, this will sharpen your skills and help you become a better prepared warrior-leader. At this time, we are limiting enrollment to the first fifteen who call and register. The class will be offered again for those who are unable to attend the initial offering. Please pray for the youth, drivers and chaperones who left on a mission’s trip to Detroit on Saturday, July 9th and will return on Sunday, July 17th.

Dr. Joseph M Jennings grew up in the black ghetto of South Bend, Indiana, the oldest son of thirteen kids. Raised to live a lifestyle of gang and drug-related violence, he stopped at nothing in his attempt to attain the material success he thought was the “American Dream.
As a former gang leader, this resulted in him being burned, stabbed, and shot thirteen times, yet still unfulfilled and feeling empty. It wasnt until Dr. Jennings was supernaturally called by God to repent of his gangster lifestyle and accept salvation that he knew of God’s incredible power and calling for his life.
Dr. Jennings has been featured on shows such as: Ricki Lake Show, The Jenny Jones Show and an FBI/CIA Gang Prevention program for the C-Span network. He has also served as a “National Youth Advocate” on President George W. Bush’s Advisory Council on the prevention of AIDS/HIV in America. Dr. Jennings has written several books and has recorded several CDs.

Sunday, June 5, Dr. Wally Hostetter begins a new series entitled “Down to Earth.”  He and his close friend, Dr. Joseph Jennings, will open the series together. 

Dr. Jennings grew up in Sound Bend and was the oldest of thirteen children.  After being involved as a former gang leader, he was supernaturally saved by God and accepted the Lord as his Savior.  He has written several books, served on President George W. Bush’s Advisor Council, and on special TV programs.   Dr. Jennings also travels worldwide speaking to schools, conferences and ministries.

St. Giles is having a garage sale on Saturday, June 4 to raise money for the up and coming youth mission’s trip to Detroit.  Below are some items needed for the trip:

About 100 patchwork pillows will be constructed by at-risk kids at the summer day camps throughout Detroit, MI. Each pillow requires 3 packages of alphabet beads to complete the fruit of the Spirit decorative beading. Please consider donating packages of Glow in the Dark Alphabet Beads (9mm). You may purchase them at Wal-Mart or Michaels. They are manufactured by the HORIZON GROUP, item #16946, cost approx $4.00. The fiberfill costs approx $3.00 per 16 oz bag. If you prefer to contribute the finances for the purchase of the beads and fiberfill, make checks payable to “Start Ministries.”

April 21, Thursday evening at 7pm we will celebrate Maundy Thursday, the evening of the last supper and the arrest of Christ.  You will enjoy a dramatic production of the Last Supper, have the privilege of sharing communion, and then have the option of participating in a segregated foot washing for the men and women and children. The ladies will journey to the Fellowship Hall and the men to the gymnasium. Pastor Wally and Linda will coordinate the ministry and pray with each of you. Please come prepared. Wear shoes that are easy to remove, no socks or stockings. Get ready for God’s blessing!

PRAYER WORKSHOP
Ruth Shinness-Brinduse, the author of the Prayer Strategy Resource Book, will be leading a two hour workshop on prayer at St. Giles on Saturday, April 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The next day, she will teach in the Adult Sunday School class at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

FAMILY SEDER
Sam Nadler, of Word of Messiah Ministries will be at St. Giles on Wednesday, April 13th at 6:30 (Gym) to speak on and demonstrate the Messiah in the Passover. Everyone is invited to attend this Seder presentation.  Nursery is provided for ages 5 and under.  Please contact the church office if you need childcare.

MONTCLAIRE FAMILY FUN DAY
On Saturday April 2nd, St. Giles will be helping Montclaire School with their Family Fun Day. The Young Adults Class will be providing folks to help with the field events. PRESBYTERY & INSTALLATION SERVICE
St. Giles will be hosting the upcoming 67th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the Mid-Atlantic on January 28th and 29th. At the Saturday meeting, our Presbytery will examine Wally Hostetter and vote whether to approve the call extended by St. Giles to Wally as our congregation’s next pastor. During our morning worship service on Sunday the 30th, there will be a service to formally install Wally as pastor of St. Giles.

St. Giles is excited about partnering with our neighbors at St. Andrews in serving Charlotte’s homeless community. On the first Thursdays of February and March we have the opportunity to assist with the care of 14 homeless men.  Close to 40 volunteers are needed. After the program, you are invited to the Gym for dessert and a time of fellowship. Prizes will be awarded! Children are invited to dress up and visit each vehicle for treats. A box will be in the narthex for the next few weeks for candy, stickers, silly bands, etc. donations. Family Camp Out! 6:00 pm on…Bring your tents and sleeping bags for a night of camping out on the church grounds with a campfire, S’mores and lots of fun! We’ll all go to church together the next morning – all smelly, wrinkly and with messy hair!

Monthly workshop meetings designed to train and equip in tools used in Inner-healing and Deliverance Ministry. On Friday, August  27th the church will engage in a 24 hour corporate prayer vigil. The church sanctuary will be open for a 24 hour period beginning Friday at 8:30 am and ending Saturday at 8:30 am for you to join together in corporate prayer and worship.  Each day during this time period a devotion will be uploaded to the website for you to read, pray and ponder over.

After the family fun day on July 24th at 8:00pm, you are invited to the sanctuary to a free concert by Holiday. You won’t want to miss original songs by Scotty Beshears, Paul Bowden, Daniel Burns, Judson Kovasckitz and Ellie Smith.

St. Giles County Fair on Saturday, July 24, 5:00pm-8:00pm. Come join in on a family fun day full of games, hamburgers, hotdogs, corndogs, chips and fixins, a bake off and homemade ice cream contest! (blue ribbons will be awarded!) You can test your hand at ring toss or join in on the balloon toss, take a hayride, participate in a sack race or just sit under the tree and play a game of checkers. There will be something for all ages. Tickets for the meal go on sale after church on Sunday, July 11 & Sunday, July 18. $5.00 per person or $20.00 max per family. Everything else is free. Volunteers are needed to run the cotton candy machine, help with food, bake cupcakes for the cupcake walk, man games, prizes, set up, and clean up. Also anyone “artsy” to make signs for the games. The Mid-Atlantic Women’s Retreat will be October 8-10 in Black Mountain, NC. The speaker is Leigh McLeroy from Houston, TX. Title of the retreat is “The Unshakeable Kingdom”. Brochures are available in the foyer.

CAMP KIDJAM 2010! 

Please pray for Sadie Evans, Nathan Evans, Rebekah Jenkins, Eli Johnson, Majchiek Olechnowicz, Hazeem Shacklette, Joel Watkins and Steve & Sharon Seward as they head to Wake Forest University for 4 days of fun and learning how to “Put Faith in Motion”.  They will meet in the back parking lot of the church Friday, July 16 at 10:00 am and return on Monday, July 19 around 1:00 pm.

All kids ages 3 years through 6^th grade are invited to a tropical rainforest adventure August 2^nd – 6^th!  A light dinner will be provided for everyone beginning at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  St. Giles members are asked to give $1.00/child (no more than $15.00 per family for the week).  No charge for our guests.  We will meet together in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm to get to know each other, learn inspiring songs and watch a great skit all designed to make our trip into the rainforest an unforgettable event! All kids and parents are invited to join us as we meet together for our final regular season meeting on May 23rd.  Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets and a delicious side dish to share with everyone.  We will provide the hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream.  We will take some time to bless and honor our rising 7th graders! 

St. Giles will supply food and shelter to homeless women for a week. Pat Johnson is leading this very exciting ministry. Contact Pat if you are available to serve (704-552-0541). Official time the women will arrive at the church will be announce later in the month.

All are invited to a catered reception for Steve and his family. To offset luncheon expenses, donations are appreciated. Cards of appreciation and encouragement will be collected and given to the family during the reception.

The Young Adult Men will be heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia for a retreat May 14-16. Our theme this year is, “Being a Man of God in an Ungodly World”. We will be examining various Scriptures to discover the character, mindset and responses the Lord calls men to develop and live out at home, in the workplace and in one’s neighborhood/nation. Our time will consist not only of study. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to rafting, kayaking, hiking,etc. For more info contact Rick Slate (rslate@carolina.rr.com).

Children ages 2 yrs. and older are invited to join in the Hosanna Parade at the beginning of the worship service on March 28th. Ages 2 yrs. – 6th grade line up outside Sanctuary at 10:20 a.m. (Parents, please accompany little ones.)

PALM SUNDAY BREAKFAST & BALLOON LIFT
All parents and children are invited to a breakfast and balloon lift on March 28 @ 9:30 am in the gym. This will take the place of Children’s Sunday School.

Mark March 20 on your calendar for a Dinner and a Movie! Bring a salad or vegetable dish and dessert to share with others. The meat will be provided. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 pm and watch the movie “The Keys to the Kingdom” after dinner. Come prepared for a great time of Fellowship.

Esther: A Feast of Purim “An Evening of Feasting & Gladness!” As we wrap up our season of study, come celebrate Esther’s courage and God’s faithful deliverance with an evening of feasting & gladness on March 17th 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm! A memorial service to celebrate and honor Rick’s life will be held at St. Giles Presbyteria​n Church in Charlotte, 2027 Emerywood Dr., on Thursday, January 28th at 4:00 PM. The family will receive visitors before the service, beginning at 3:15.

In Lieu of flowers, Lisa has indicated a desire to have gifts earmarked for the “Watkins Children College Fund”. Checks can be made out to St. Giles Presbyterian but no charitable tax deduction would be allowed on these gifts.

Training sessions offered for all interested men and women. The goal of this training is to provide tools, information and first hand experience that proves to be effective in releasing people from bondage. St. Giles begins a 13 week video curriculum taught by financial expert Dave Ramsey of Financial Peace University (FPU). This program teaches you how to make the right decisions with your money. Kids need to dress warmly as we Christmas Carol through the neighborhood sharing the love of Jesus! We’ll come back to the church for hot chocolate, cookies and a movie.

Ladies!! Mark your calendar for our 2nd annual Silver & Gold Progressive Tea! On Wednesday, December 16th, beginning at 7:00 p.m., we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for a time of celebrating friendships, both old and new. Engage in stimulating conversation and unique experiences as we rotate from hostess to hostess while enjoying tea and holiday treats. Invite your friends and bring a treat. Christmas/Celebration Luncheon for EVERYONE after the morning service. We will have time for fellowship, a catered lunch, and honor and give special recognition to some of our Young at Heart members. Email margie@stgilesepc.org if you plan to attend this event. Cost: Singles: $7.50, Couples: $15.00, Families: $20.00. There will be a special meal for children 10 and under. After the luncheon, children (10 and under) can be excused to meet with our Youth Director and Youth for a planned activity during the rest of the program.

On Thanksgiving morning, St. Giles will host a special, early morning service at 8:30 am followed by our traditional breakfast of sausage, scrambled eggs, grits, biscuits, gravy, juice and coffee. Nothing like a big breakfast! This is a great time for celebrating what the Lord has done in our lives, fellowshipping, and of course, eating. There is no charge.

“The Young Adults will renew its outreach to the Center of Hope beginning Oct.3 (Sat.) from 11:15 am-1:00 pm.  We will serve a meal, lead a short service of worship and a devotion, and interact with the residents.  The Center of Hope is a homeless shelter serving both women and families.  For more information contact Peter Brown at 704-362-4553.
